You've heard about Fashion Week, but have you heard about Pitti Uomo ?
In recent years, Fashion Week has become a calendar event for both, press and bloggers. I dare to say 1 out of 10 people have heard about FW or have an idea of what it is. Internet fame and self-branding have made it a bloggers week, causing others to skip the shows because they are not what they use to be.
Fashion week used to be about designers presenting a collection, telling a story, and allowing buyers and customers to create a connection with the clothes.
While I was living in Florence, I noticed that for a week you would see A LOT OF men walking around, wearing perfectly tailored suits, and parties and photographers everywhere. This is common in Florence, men know how to wear their suits and people like to go for aperitivo and spritz almost everyday. But the city center (where I used to live and work) is so small that you know when someone is not from around. You could see Koreans, Chinese, New Yorkers, Italians all neatly dressed. I remember they were all coming from Fortezza da Basso located just a few minutes away.
I had to know what was going on! After asking around they told me, it's Pitti Uomo. (Uomo means men in Italian) .
Pitti Uomo: is the most important International event for menswear and men accessories collections and for the launch of new men fashion projects.
It's amazing! There is so much going on during Pitti Uomo, that you couldn't even imagine it! Thousands of buyers from all around the world gather to preview the most important collections. It is the best of both worlds. Old Italian ways with so much technology backing the fair.
Pitti Uomo is still a virgin, authentic fashion week. An event that truly deserves our attention.
So should we skip FW and only go to Pitti? Not necessarily, but should we pay more attention to other fashion fairs around the world that are presenting amazing collections? Totally !
